Traveling with luggage on the FlixBus / FlixTrain

In addition to Deutsche Bahn, there are also regional and international train companies with which you can travel in Germany. This includes the still young train company FlixTrain. In addition to trains and planes, traveling by bus is a popular and, above all, inexpensive and environmentally friendly means of travel. Flixbus has an extensive travel offer to numerous cities and countries in Germany and Europe. In addition to Germany, travel destinations include Austria, the Netherlands, Italy, Denmark, France, Croatia, the Czech Republic and much more. A comfortable and extremely affordable alternative to the FlixBus is the FlixTrain. With the FlixTrain you can travel comfortably throughout Germany (e.g. there are train connections between Berlin and Stuttgart as well as Hamburg and Cologne).

HOW MUCH LUGGAGE CAN I TAKE ON THE FLIXTRAIN?

The permitted amount of luggage per passenger is:

• 1 piece of hand luggage (no size specified)
• 1 piece of luggage (no size specified)

This amount of luggage is free of charge. Taking additional pieces of luggage costs €2 per piece of luggage.

INFORMATION ABOUT TAKING LUGGAGE ON THE TRAIN

Permissible pieces of luggage on the train are pieces of luggage that do not endanger the safety and order of the company or other passengers. The luggage should not be bulky and should be able to be loaded, unloaded and reloaded independently.

SIZE RESTRICTION FOR LUGGAGE FOR TRAVEL BY TRAIN

There are no exact regulations regarding luggage dimensions. However, your own luggage should be such that it can be loaded and unloaded yourself.

PRAM FOR TRAVEL BY TRAIN

Strollers that are not folded may be transported in the designated trains with multi-purpose compartments - a parking space reservation may be necessary. On trains that do not have a multi-purpose compartment, only folded strollers can be taken on board. These must not affect other fellow travelers.

WHEELCHAIRS, WALKERS ON THE TRAIN

The transport of a foldable wheelchair and walking aids is free of charge. Wheelchairs must be registered with FlixTrain customer service no earlier than 14 days and no later than 36 hours before departure so that it can be checked whether space is available for passengers with reduced mobility. A wheelchair must meet the following requirements: dimensions - 60 x 120 cm and weight - max. 350 kg.

TAKING BIKES

Bicycle parking spaces requiring reservation are available on all trains. The price of a bike card is €9 for standard-sized bikes (max. 25 kg). However, you should book your bike in advance as capacity on the FlixTrain is limited. Each traveler is only allowed to take one bicycle with them.

SPECIAL BAGGAGE, SPEAR LUGGAGE ON THE TRAIN

There is no precise information for bulky luggage. To find out whether bulky luggage can be transported on the FlixTrain, you should contact customer service in good time. Regardless of length and fare, special luggage costs €9, including the following: two-wheeled, single-seat bicycles, e-bikes, bicycle trailers (foldable), portable musical instruments, skis, snowboards, surfboards, etc.

HOW DO I MAKE THE TRIP EASIER FOR CHILDREN?

Children get bored when they have to spend hours in the car. They start to whine, become restless and the question “When are we finally there?” takes place every minute. The children's impatience and restlessness begin to wear on our nerves. We get irritated and internally think “Great, the vacation is off to a good start!”

The most important thing is good planning. In order to make the journey as pleasant as possible, we should work with the children to decide what can be packed in the bag. For long car journeys, radio plays, music or a tablet with favorite films are helpful to shorten the journey time. Classic alternatives would be children's books, magnetic play sets, card games or a few snacks.

HOW MUCH LUGGAGE CAN I TAKE ON THE FLIXBUS?

Of course, every FlixBus offers enough space for your luggage. In general, your ticket includes the free transport of:

• 1 piece of hand luggage (max. 42 x 30 x 18 cm / max. 7kg)
• 1 piece of luggage (max. 80 x 50 x 30 cm / slightly different dimensions with a maximum circumference of 160 cm on all sides permitted / max. 20kg)

For safety reasons, it is important that your hand luggage can be stowed in the overhead compartments above your seat so that escape routes are not blocked. Please mark your luggage with your name and address to ensure there is no mix-up. Our friendly drivers will be happy to help you load your luggage into the luggage compartment.

EXTRA LUGGAGE

Strollers, wheelchairs and assistants can be transported on some buses and are free of charge. Wheelchairs and walking aids must be registered by telephone at least 36 hours before departure. Please note that for safety reasons, these can only be taken with you if they are foldable and without an electric drive. Strollers are considered special luggage and must be registered by telephone at least 48 hours before departure.

TAKING BIKES

On many FlixBus buses you can also take your bike (standard size without bodies, max. 25kg) for a fee of 9€. Transport takes place on bicycle racks. In exceptional cases, transport is only possible in suitable bags in the trunk (e.g. folding bike). In this case, the bicycle must be registered by telephone with customer service before starting the journey (see regulations on special luggage). E-bikes and Pedelecs, tandems and trikes are not transported on bike racks

MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

Musical instruments that do not exceed the hand luggage dimensions (42x 30x 18 cm, max. 7kg) can be taken into the passenger compartment free of charge instead of hand luggage. However, you can only take your hand luggage or your musical instrument into the passenger compartment. Musical instruments that are larger than the hand luggage dimensions (42x 30x 18 cm, max. 7kg) are considered special baggage and must be transported in the trunk in suitable packaging (instrument case). We recommend transporting it in a hard-shell case. In this case, the transport costs €9 and must be registered and confirmed by telephone with our customer service after your booking, but at the earliest 48 hours before the bus departs. Musical instruments and their cases that are larger than 135 x 48 x 35 cm are excluded from transport (e.g. double basses).

SPECIAL LUGGAGE, SPEAR LUGGAGE ON THE BUS

For a piece of luggage that is larger than your luggage, you have to pay a fee of €9. The piece of luggage must not exceed a total circumference (height in cm + width in cm + depth in cm) of 240cm and a weight of 30kg. Furthermore, special luggage must either be specified during the booking (if possible for the trip) or reported to our customer service by telephone after booking, but then no earlier than 48 hours before the departure of the bus. Only one piece of special luggage can be taken per passenger; there is no entitlement to this. For example, skis and musical instruments are considered special luggage (transporting them in a hard-shell suitcase is recommended). Special regulations apply to bicycles and orthopedic aids. Some items are excluded from carriage.
