Turkish Airlines Carry-on and Baggage Regulations

FREE BAGGAGE: SUITCASE DIMENSIONS/WEIGHT

Each passenger may take one or two pieces of carry-on baggage on board, depending on the travel class.

Turkish Airlines carry-on baggage may not exceed 55 x 40 x 23 cm and may weigh a maximum of 8 kg (per piece of baggage). In Business Class, two pieces of carry-on baggage (55 x 40 x 23 cm) may be taken into the cabin.

In addition to cabin baggage, another personal item can be taken into the cabin free of charge. This can be a handbag, a camera, a portable baby seat or baby carrier, a laptop, or an umbrella without a pointed end.

The menu changes according to the season, and the dishes are always prepared with the freshest ingredients. On certain flights, Turkish Airlines offers a luxurious service where the "Flying Chefs" prepare first-class dishes above the clouds. There is a special menu for passengers who have special dietary needs for health or religious reasons.

CANCELLATION

As long as the ticket has not yet been issued, the reservation can be cancelled free of charge. If the ticket has already been issued, the cancellation and refund conditions for the respective fare class apply. IMPORTANT! Even after purchasing a ticket, it can still be cancelled, but the cancellation/refund entitlements vary depending on the applicable fare conditions for the respective ticket type. COMPENSATION FOR FLIGHT DELAY

Based on the EU Passenger Rights Regulation of 2004, there is a right to compensation for a flight delay of over 3 hours, a flight cancellation, an overbooking, or a missed connecting flight. Supplied refreshments also do not exempt Turkish Airlines from compensation payments. The only condition: The flight must have started in the EU or, if landing in the EU, must also have been operated by an airline headquartered in the EU. Claims can be asserted retroactively for up to 3 years. There is no compensation if the delayed departure was caused by an exceptional circumstance such as bad weather or a strike.

In the following cases, there is a right to compensation:
  • Delays: Your flight must have arrived at its destination with a delay of more than 3 hours.
  • Cancellations: If you were informed of a cancellation less than 14 days before departure.
  • Overbooking: If the airline overbooks your flight and you can no longer find a seat on board, this is equivalent to denied boarding.
  • Missed connecting flight: If the final destination is reached more than 3 hours later due to a missed connecting flight.
BAGGAGE DAMAGE/LOSS

If your baggage cannot be found at the end of your flight, you should contact the lost and found office at your destination airport. Once information about your itinerary and baggage has been recorded at the lost and found office, a loss report will be created, and you will receive a reference number. You can use this to track the status of your baggage by entering the reference number in the online baggage tracing system. The number consists of 5 letters and 5 numbers. You can find this in the written confirmation of the loss report. For the first five days, the lost and found office is responsible for searching for the lost baggage. If the baggage has not been found after the first five days, this can be reported on the baggage tracing and tracking page by submitting the required documents.

Reimbursement of expenses incurred due to lost baggage! Regardless of the cause of the baggage loss, Turkish Airlines will issue a report on lost baggage and offer a package with basic necessities. If your baggage arrives late, this can be reported on the baggage tracing and tracking page by submitting proof of costs incurred during the relevant period. The report must be made within 21 days of receiving the baggage.

Fares

Turkish Airlines offers various fares tailored to the different needs of passengers. This gives passengers greater flexibility in their choice.

Economy Promotion Fare

The Economy Promotion Fare allows 1 piece of carry-on baggage (55 × 40 × 23cm), max. weight 8kg. In addition, the fare includes 20kg of free baggage for adults. A maximum of two pieces of baggage are allowed. The maximum dimensions for each piece of baggage are 158cm (HxWxD). Passengers with Miles&Smiles Elite, Elite Plus, or Star Gold cards can take additional baggage in addition to their normal free baggage allowance. For infants, 10 kg of baggage can be taken per flight. On flights with a piece concept policy, a free baggage allowance of 23kg applies to infants. In addition to the free baggage allowance, one stroller with a maximum length of 115cm is permitted on all flights. The same free baggage allowances apply to children as to adults. With the Economy Promotion Fare, the flight can be rebooked for a fee of €50. A refund in case of cancellation is not possible.

Economy Restricted Fare

The Economy Restricted Fare allows 1 piece of carry-on baggage (55×40×23 cm), max. weight 8kg. The Economy Restricted Fare includes 20kg of free baggage. Infants between 0 and 2 years receive a 90% discount on this fare. Children aged 2 to 12 years receive a 25% discount. With the Flexible Fare, rebooking is possible for a fee of €50 and cancellation for a fee of €115.

Economy Flexible Fare

The Economy Restricted Fare allows 1 piece of carry-on baggage (55×40×23 cm), max. weight 8kg. The Economy Restricted Fare includes 20kg of free baggage. Infants between 0 and 2 years receive a 90% discount on this fare. Children aged 2 to 12 years receive a 25% discount. Free rebooking and cancellation are included in the Economy Flexible Fare.

Business Fare

The Business Fare allows 2 pieces of carry-on baggage (55×40×23 cm), max. weight 8kg. In addition, the fare includes 32kg of free baggage. A maximum of two pieces of baggage are allowed. The maximum dimensions for each piece of baggage are 158cm (HxWxD).
